Earlier last week I was lucky enough to redeem a Christmas voucher that I'd been waiting to cash in for.. well, since Christmas! (surprisingly) My lovely brother rather extravagantly decided to purchase a 'gift of time' at the Sanctuary spa for me and my mum. At long last we were able to don our robes and flip-flops and head into the basilica de luxury for a day of lavish indulgence...
We started our pilgrimage in The Lavender Lounge where we sipped on champagne and tea, snuggled in blankets, smothering ourselves in everything and anything we could from the oh-so-trusting display of goodies labelled "try me" (and try we did!)
sliding my way to a treatment room (probably leaving a trail of moisturiser and oils in my wake) i was greeted by the LOVELIEST lady who right away made me feel really relaxed and comfortable. And my God, this woman had magical hands.
The Sanctuary products all smell absolutely heavenly and it was one of the best facials i've ever been lucky enough to have. Finally emerging from our treatment rooms, we floated back to The Lavender Lounge to let our nail polish dry, our massage oils sink in and to drink more tea. After a full 3 seconds, mum was happily snoozing away on her purple velvet chaise longue. I, on the other hand, wanted to stay as awake as i possibly could (tricky as i was so, so relaxed), and take in every second of our precious 2 hour gift.
Slathering on yet more goodies it was all-too-soon time for us to leave heaven and re-enter the 'real world'. A quick shower (and another cheeky application of the goods on offer), we re-dressed, hung up our robes and left the top-floor nirvana and descended down the escalators to rejoin the busy crowds of Cambridge's Grand Arcade.
A quick (and also HUGE) bite of Sushi later and we were back in the car home with a feeling inside that strongly resembled that sinking sensation you get when you check out of an exotic hotel, knowing in a few hours you'll be back at home.
All in all, The Sanctuary Spa truly was a dip into paradise, albeit only for a short while. The bad news, however, is that the Cambridge branch is CLOSING in September - a nefarious decision! I therefore urge you all to call in, email, phone, visit, purchase - do anything you can to help save this hidden gem and allow the people of Cambridgeshire to keep our little haven for just a little while longer.
If anyone has the opportunity to visit the spa, i would highly recommend it. I've posted contact details below. All in all it was a magical day and even now I'm still feeling the benefits of just those two hours.
